Positive GB3 weekend at Silverstone for James Wharton leads into the summer break

In his second and last wildcard outing in the GB3 Championship, Australian driver James Wharton raced for Fortec Motorsport at Silverstone, with overall positive results to further his experience.

Wharton started the weekend on a high note during the test sessions, recording the sixth-fastest time in only his second appearance in the championship. However, in qualifying, Wharton's front wing got damaged when a driver ahead came to a sudden stop, denying him the chance to improve his time. Consequently, James had to start in 17th position in each of the three races.

In Race 1, Wharton made a strong start, gaining three positions immediately. Following a Safety Car neutralisation, he crossed the chequered flag in 11th place, having made an impressive six-place gain from his starting position.

Race 2 saw Wharton once again gain three positions on the opening lap. Maintaining a competitive race pace, he concluded the race in 15th place, emerging as the highest-placed driver for Fortec Motorsport.

The momentum from the first two races slowed during Race 3. Despite another strong start, an early Safety Car froze the positions for several laps. Upon the resumption of green flag conditions, Wharton managed issues with the rear of his car to finish in 15th place.

Reflecting on the weekend, James Wharton said: «It was a hard weekend, especially the last race where we had the rear right come loose quite early on, so I couldn't move forward. But I just want to say thank you. It was another good learning weekend for me on this track. I got everything I could out of this weekend, including three amazing starts. So, I can take some positives, but now I've got a big break. I'll try to go home, recharge, and hopefully come back a lot stronger. We can get a lot more results when we come back. Thank you for the support!».

James Wharton will resume his season at the Imola round of the Formula Regional European Championship after the summer break, from September 6th to 8th.
